Hanami is not only for sakura. Any observation of flower can be called as Hanami.
My friend in Tsuyama was telling me that he likes Hanami but many of his students are not.
Anyway, there is no escape from this humidity and quiet annoying rain, we call this season "Tsuyu (つゆ：梅雨)" in Japanese.
Humid, warm(almost hot), rain, 3 each may be ok, but all together make us unmotivated all that time until it's over.
But when we pay more attention to the nature, hydrangeas are just beautiful in this season. Their variety of colours along the mountain road.
It helps us a lot to get motivated again for our life.
Most of Hydrangeas are already in peak season, so you can do hydrangeas Hanami at every site at the moment.
